Hello and welcome to the online movement to draft Mike Bloomberg for the presidential race in 2008. Yes, I've read the same stories about how he isn't running, but after looking at all of the other candidates I think Mike represents the best opportunity to get our country back on track for the 21st century. If you are remotely interested in this cause I encourage you to sign up, spread the word and Unite for Mike. I live in the DC Metro area.

He said fairly unequivocally in an interview with Dan Rather that he wasn't and wouldn't be running. Yet, I think there's still a chance, because sources say he's still definitely considering it, and the recent news about him having foreign policy sessions with Nancy Soderberg seems to be promising.
I am a high school senior from Massachusetts and I am doing an intensive year-long project about the Electoral College, and I plan to make a website with polls with Mike Bloomberg and attempt to predict the Electoral College outcome if he were to run and receive a significant percent of the vote, because this is something important that hasn't really been addressed. I also have a site with his genealogy.

I also started a blog to catalog news about him at http://bloomberg08.wordpress.com , but I don't know if UniteForMike.com will serve that purpose.

I think one of the reasons that Mike is being firm in his "not running" stance is that he's trying to avoid the media problems that Fred Thompson endured. The media forged and shaped the public image of Fred, yet Fred could not rebut any of what was being said about him. Doing so would make him instantly "in the race" and then he'd be on his heels trying to launch the campaign plan before it was ready. By the time he did announce, he was old news and couldn't gain any traction.
Mike is certainly a smarter than that. By being strong in his "not running" assertion he avoids having a national image shaped by others; he stays in the headlines just enough and on his own terms. Being in the public eye as a "concerned citizen only" is a brilliant move.
Incidentally, I would personally assert to you that he *is* already running for president. He might not officially announce, but he is in fact running. He has been via The Hagel meeting(s), the Arnie meeting in Cali, The Newsweek story, the website re-lauch, etc. The final step into the race has everything to do with who the frontrunners are.
It's possible he ultimately won't run, but right now I see his people experimenting and field testing him through these events. If he really "just wanted to talk" to these people, he'd do it privately. With his economic resources, it makes far more sense to announce and hit the campaign trail with blinding force. The slow, viral technique that Ron Paul (and Fred to a lesser degree) utilized is just not necessary when you have the power to conduct a national campaign without having to do any fundraising.
Finally, in what I would acknowledge is pure speculation, how could he *not* run? There are successful businessman, and successful public officials. But how many have been both, and done so to such an exceptional degree? Futher, anyone with common sense can see that neither private industry, nor public institution alone can solve all of our nation's problems. Yet both parties are locked into this quasi-religious, nearly infantile sort of thinking and pandering in which only one of these ways works. Mike has the credentials on both sides and knows how to use each. How could he just stand aside and watch the same futile story continue to unfold? It must drive him totally nuts.
2008 is wide open. In 2012, we'd be back to the same cycle of "re-elect me!", with the VP being groomed into president. The other party (which ever of the two that might be) will make the case against the incumbent and we're back to the usual. The "system" is weak right now and the candidate choices are bad. I know Mike doesn't want to be a spoiler, but how could he look back at his incredible career and not make a run at president? This is the perfect time, not 2012 or "someday." Further, if he wins we'll probably see a new political thinking based on cooperation instead of the current, two-party bumpersticker belief system.
Run, Mike, run!

Welcome aboard GP, I couldn't agree with you more. Mike Bloomberg represents a rallying point for everyone dissatisfied with the partisan bickering that presently dominates our politics. We could use a Minnesota chapter too, btw!

CS, are you also on Unity08? I have a group over there called "Bloomberg For President!" and someone posted some vids there. I was going to make you an admin (assuming it's you) for the group since I'll be a bit bogged down until holiday season is over. For some reason the member list for the group seems to be stuck to some other group, but that can be untangled. In any case, Unity is a good place to promote Mike for now.
I was thinking you could mirror everything here to that group such that we might "attach" U08's activity over here to whatever degree we can. The Ron Paul people are doing this to some extent already.
I've been involved with Unity08 since around March (I'm also a moderator on the site), but I'm not sure if it's really getting the traction it needs. People are signing up but never coming back. I also suspect that if Mike runs, he'll just run, and bypass U08 (and I'll choose Mike over U08).
I was at one time also about to start a Bloomberg Blog and had compiled a list of things to write about that might encourage interest and participation. You've already been posting the sorts of things I had in mind. I especially thought that starting a "will he run?" section would be good. It would speculate the circumstances in which he would run, relative to the daily status of the dem/rep frontrunners. The VP choice via your Bloomberg Primary.
In any case, I'll stop-a-ramblin' here.

Haha, yeah, I started a Bloomberg group over there. I disbanded after noticing that yours was getting more members. One thing we don't need is 1000 individuals trying to do the same thing; as a group we can get far more accomplished. I think cross-promotion with Unity08 is a fantastic idea.

Kudos for starting this site. I did a search on "Bloomberg for President" and found this site. America is at a critical time right now and Mayor Bloomberg has the chance to completely revolutionize American politics not seen since some guy named Lincoln decided to buck the establishment back in 1860.

Fortunately for us, we have many more tools at our disposal than Lincoln in order to get the word out about our hopes for the future of American politics. Ultimately however, it still remains by virtue of sharing our belief in a new day by one blog post, one forum entry and one email at a time.

GPinMinnesota: Your phrase "nearly infantile sort of thinking" gets to Me. You are TOO Kind!
My journey here has been very long and convoluted. I started out with a website about losing My Father to the greed of the Railroad. He died from injuries from an accident at an unsafe crossing near Our home. After His death, I found the Railroad (Big Business) got to My States 'Law Makers' and 'passed' a law limiting the damages They could be held responsible for. My State, (Co) has a limit of $341,250.00 for a Wrongful Death Suit. My Lawyers told Me that was IT, no more! It didn't matter that the Railroad downsized the crossing (I believe illegally), it didn't matter the crossing was NOT up to standards and it didn't matter this was S.O.P. for the Railroad Nation wide (meaning even though the danger WAS known to Them, it was blatantly & purposely ignored, to save a few dollars for Them). I do not know of Anyone willing to trade $341,250.00 for a Loved Ones Life and IF there are People out there who WOULD, I do NOT want to know Them.
That was My starting point. It has led Me up the 'chain of Command' to here, where I believe the corruption begins. That corruption being the Special Interest Groups (Big Business) buying Our Politicians and Their Votes. This MUST STOP!
I am NOT a Politician, I have NO skills as a Diplomat and I cannot look someone in the face and smile while lying My butt off. I just found this site yesterday and I have not had a chance to research what Mr Bloombergs views are yet. However, I DO and can SEE where Mr. Bloomberg is the BEST and in My mind, the only, possible solution for Our Country right now!
As a Businessman, His success is unquestionable and He has the experience needed to Lead Our Nation. With His personal wealth, I would hope He would be immune to monetary influence and also show some gratitude to the Nation that allowed His success.
I read somewhere the He does not want to be a 'spoiler', Unfortunately, I believe this is EXACTLY what We NEED. A Spoiler to come in and break the cycle of repetition We are locked into, Especially, the Bush/Clinton/Bush Dynasty! For Twenty Years They have been allowed to erode Our Constitutional Rights and undermine the Spirit of Our Nation. Enough already!
These are enough reasons for Me to want Mr. Bloomberg to run for President! I want CHANGE, Not just a change of the Face that would continue to erode My rights as an American! (My apologies for being so long winded)

Those who want Michael Bloomberg to run for president should keep in mind that his best strategy would be to wait as long as possible before entering the race. He would benefit from allowing the major party candidates to discredit themselves or for people to just get tired of them.
The media have pushed the major party candidates into starting the public portion of their campaigns much too early. they should have spent 2007 getting their organizations together and not have begun actively campaigning and debating until after Jan 1.
The Democrats have decided to run a media star rather than a serious presidential candidate. Neither Barack Obama nor Hillary Clinton have any relevant experience. If they were white males no one would seriously consider either of them as a candidate.
The Republican front runners have the necessary experience, but none of them has demonstrated the ability to appeal to the public that Reagan, Eisenhower and the two Roosevelts had.
as the primary season drags on voters may decide they would really like to have another choice. That would be the time for Michael Bloomberg to announce a candidacy.
Supporters should go ahead with efforts to get his name on state ballots and to build public support by participating in as many online forums as possible.
I don't know at this point if I would vote for Bloomberg or not, but I would like to have a choice instead of being limited to the Republican candidate.

reasonmclucus:
I'm a former Fred Thompson supporter who finds the rest of the Republican Field fatally fall and anyone of them is ripe for the fall to either Hillary or Obama in the looming fall general election campaign.
My interest is finding a candidate that can go the distance. I know very little of Mayor Bloomberg past the present office he holds, and of course, his easy and ready acess to campaign capital. Having said that, I am not a fan of self-financed campaigns as the ability to collect campaign capital from others is a key measure of the true support enjoyed by a candidate.
I am interested in learning more about Mayor Bloomberg's positions, first in a sales chart features and benefits way, then more deeply if I see where I can match up Mayor Bloomberg's positions to folks I know in some varied industries with interests in foreign and domestic policy.
I hoping to find more thoughtful and indepth positions than I see currently from the Republican field. Just to make my position crystal clear, I cannot vote for a Democrat for President. I loath, detest and despise the Clintons for past and present transgretions, while Senator Obama is entirely unrealistic in his foreign policy.
I thank you in advance for your kind consideration.
Yours very truly,
Colonel (Honor) David W. Moon

I am withdrawing My support for Mayor Bloomberg. I found an indication from one of His policies which leads Me to believe He would be no better than the current crop of "Candidates". Suppression of the Peoples rights is NOT a trait I want to see in Government.
